Building Twin Bed with Storage Drawers

Oct 22nd

Twin bed with storage drawers allows you to keep the mess in the room to a minimum without adding furniture. Beds with built-in drawers underneath can hold clothes, blankets or even toys. You can buy a finished bed with drawers at the local furniture store, but be prepared for a heavy price tag. Alternatively, do your own. Even with minimal joinery skills, you can create your own queen-size bed with built-in drawers for a weekend.

Space rectangles 6 inches in from either end of the board and 1 inch up from the bottom edge twin bed with storage drawers. Sand cut edges with medium sandpaper. Secure two 76-by-one-inch studs to the inner edge of the 84-inch discs. Place a button on the bottom edge of the board, directly below the rectangles cut in step 1. Place the other cleat 2 inches below the top edge of the board. Use 3-inch wood screw distributed every 4 inches down the length of the button in the side of the 84-inch board.

Place the studs in the same way as the first set of studs on the first 84-inch board. Use 3-inch wood screw distributed every 4 inches down button. For the 84-inch discs, turn the studs in to face each other with a tight touch to the lower edge of the boards. Place the shorter board’s perpendicular to longer boards. Rest the ends of the shorter boards against the longer twin bed with storage drawers. Secure the rectangle in place, using 4-inch wooden screws. Insert the screws through the longer boards in the shorter. Use two screws per side; distance the screws 2 inches from the ends of the boards.
